The Carrboro Farmers' Market open in the Triangle area in 1977. It's a farmer-run market - all products must be produced within a 50 mile radius of Carrboro - dedicated to bringing fresh produce to the local population. The market started with around 20 vendors, increasing to 50 vendors in the 1980's, and growing further to 90 vendors in later years. At the same time, the Durham and Chapel Hill areas were becoming a burgeoning hub for the local foog movement, supporting a vibrant food culture and several nationally-renowned farm to table restaurants - supplied by the Carrboro Farmers' Market.
